ACWA Power announced the commercial start-up of the 2.06 GW Shuaiba 2 solar power plant, achieving full production capacity.

The plant, located in Makkah, is part of a two-station project, a partnership between Saudi Aramco, Badil, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Saudi Public Investment Fund, and ACWA Power, a renewable energy and water desalination company.

The project aims to establish the largest solar photovoltaic power plant in Saudi Arabia, with a total value of approximately 8.3 billion riyals ($2.2 billion).

ACWA Power said in a disclosure to the Saudi Stock Exchange (Tadawul) that it received on February 19, 2025, a notification from the project company for the Shuaiba 2 independent solar photovoltaic power plant in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, receiving the commercial operation certificate from the Saudi Power Procurement Company for the first, second and third phases with a total production capacity of 206 GW, achieving full production capacity.

ACWA Power’s stake in the project company, Shuaiba II Power Company, is 35.01 percent and it expects the financial impact of the operation to appear during the second quarter of 2025.
